About Us

Dr. Perez founded CompassVet out of a desire to offer comfort and compassion to families during their pets' most delicate moments. She remains our dedicated owner and veterinarian since our inception in 2019.

Today, our scope has expanded beyond end-of-life care. CompassVet is excited to offer integrative veterinary care, ensuring your beloved pets receive exceptional care, in the comfort of their own surroundings.

So, what’s with the name? CompassVet is your trusty guide, your navigational compass, on the journey through all of your pet’s life stages.

And we do it with compassion.

We are proud to be privately owned, woman owned, and locally owned, all of which are becoming rare in the veterinary industry. CompassVet is driven to provide the highest quality care to the families we serve.

Our Team

Dr. Tara Perez

Doctor Perez is an Aggie, but not the kind you’re thinking of. She hails from Northern California and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science and Management from the University of California, in Davis. She worked as a registered veterinary technician (aka licensed) before attending vet school at Ross University on the awesome little island of St. Kitts. She graduated in 2015 after a clinical year at Auburn University in Alabama.

Since 2015, Dr. Perez has worked in veterinary emergency medicine in and around San Antonio. She absolutely loves emergency and critical care medicine, but after working in the field for years she also longed to give families a more personal veterinary experience, especially regarding end of life care. Thus the idea of CompassVet was born.

Dr. Perez and her wife, Tiffany, have a baby girl who was born in December 2021, one dog (Austin), four cats (Marshmellow, Bernie, Sunshine, and Smudge), and three angel pets, Preston (pictured), Porter, and Rosco. In addition to being a practice owner, mom, and wife, Dr. Perez enjoys traveling to coastal cities, pier fishing, light hiking, reading (but never finishing) books, painting, and watching cooking competition and true crime shows.

Tiffany Perez

Veterinary medicine wasn’t Tiff’s life calling, but they have learned to embrace it since marrying into the field in 2017. A South Texas native, they took a detour for about six years while serving with the United States Coast Guard, but the irresistible call of breakfast tacos lured them back home.

Utilizing their GI benefits, Tiff earned an Associate of Arts degree in Photography from Alamo Colleges in 2018. They continued their educational journey, graduating with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Communications from Trinity University in 2022. During their time at Trinity, they actively participated in the entrepreneurship program, even using CompassVet as a business model and taking it to entrepreneurial competitions.

Nowadays, Tiff spends most of their time hanging out with their adorable daughter, affectionately known as 'Moon-pie,' but they remember a time when they had her own interest and hobbies. When asked about their passions, they’ll gladly share their diverse range of interests, including community involvement, politics, foreign affairs, watching hilarious wipeout videos, the art of woodworking, film study, understanding weather patterns, and mastering the art of extreme spot cleaning.

Amanda recently joined in early 2024 as our remote Licensed Veterinary Technician. She lives in Florida but is quickly becoming acquainted with San Antonio and we are excited to have her on our team! Amanda will be handling the bulk of our client communications.
