Dr. Tara Perez

Doctor Perez is an Aggie, but not the kind you’re thinking of. She hails from Northern California and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science and Management from the University of California, in Davis. She worked as a registered veterinary technician (aka licensed) before attending vet school at Ross University on the awesome little island of St. Kitts, and graduated in 2015 after a clinical year at Auburn University in Alabama.

Since 2015, Dr. Perez has worked in veterinary emergency medicine in and around San Antonio. She absolutely loves emergency and critical care medicine, but after working in the field for years she also longed to give families a more personal veterinary experience, especially regarding end of life care. Thus the idea of CompassVet was born.

Dr. Perez and her wife, Tiffany, have a baby girl who was born in December 2021, two dogs (Porter, Austin), four cats (Marshmellow, Bernie, Sunshine, and Smudge), and two angel pets, Preston (pictured), and Rosco. In addition to being a practice owner, mom, and wife, Dr. Perez enjoys traveling to coastal cities, pier fishing, light hiking, painting, and watching cooking competition and true crime shows.

Laurie Stirling

Practice Manager
Experienced Veterinary Assistant

Laurie came to CompassVet in 2021. Her current title is Practice Manager, but she also functions as our receptionist, assistant, nanny, and, basically Dr. Perez’s right hand person. Laurie has been in veterinary medicine in the San Antonio area since 2010, and spent four of those years in ER/Specialty where she worked alongside Dr. Perez as a skilled veterinary assistant. She is very passionate about low stress handling and making sure her patients are as comfortable as possible, which is what drew her to at home vet care.

Laurie’s current pack consists of 4 cats, 3 dogs, and a ferret. During her free time, she enjoys traveling, especially to beaches, crocheting, painting, and cuddling with her own fur babies. Laurie has a big heart for shelter pets and enjoys fostering bottle baby puppies and kittens, and has cared for dozens of litters through local shelters.
